Donations Needed!
Now that the holidays are behind us, it's time to kick it into high gear and focus on making this our best Online Auction yet! In order to do that, we really do need at least one donation from each of you. With a little more than a month to go until we launch our Online Auction, we are at a 3rd of our goal of 150 items (we've got some great stuff!).

Keep some forms in the car and ask the businesses you already frequent to donate, or get in some extra steps and explore some new places. Extra forms are available outside the front office, and the deadline for donations is Wednesday, January 31st. A big THANK YOU to all of you who have turned in a donation so far.

Together, We are Giant! MdTL's Online Auction

One of the ways our Annual Auction has become so successful is that in addition to our big night, we launch an Online Auction a few weeks prior to the main event. This is an excellent opportunity not only to score some amazing items at incredible prices, but it also allows friends and family outside the immediate MdTL community to participate as well (anyone with internet access can bid!). The secret to success… we need EVERY family to bring in ONE donation. Simply ask for a donation from your favorite service providers - salons, restaurants, toy stores, etc... tell them that their donation is a great way to get their name out to local families. You'll be surprised at how many businesses will happily donate something. If every family can bring in one donated item, then we will be well on our way to having a successful and fun auction. "Home-grown" services and products can also be very popular, so if you have a special talent such as artwork, baking or arranging gift baskets, consider a donation utilizing your special skills!

To give you an idea of where to start, here are just a few of our popular categories (but we also welcome folks to think outside the box!):

  • Dining (our most popular category!): Where do you love to go out for dinner? Which place do you pick up dinner at least once a week when you just don’t have time to cook? Favorite date night locale…
  • Food & Wine: This category pretty much speaks for itself! Your favorite gourmet treats or a bottle of wine or a tasting from your favorite winery…
  • Just for Kids: Think about your child’s favorite place to go… Their favorite after-school activity… Their favorite place to pick out a special item…
  • Spa & Beauty: Do you get facials? Got a great place for manis and pedis? Where do you go when you need to pamper yourself a bit?
  • Health & Fitness: Where do you practice yoga? Remember that week-long juice cleanse you did? Who is that acupuncturist you’re always raving about?
  • Pets: Who’s your vet? Where do you get your dog groomed? What’s your favorite pet store?
  • Sports & Entertainment: Got season tickets for local sports teams? Donate tickets to a game or a choice of games! Frequent the theater or the symphony?
Asking for a donation may seem daunting, but keep in mind that your favorite establishments are not only used to being asked, but 9 times out of 10 are alltoo happy to donate. This is an opportunity for businesses to get the word out – so it truly is a win-win for everyone.

Finally, the important stuff:
  • There is a quadruplicate donation form in your child’s mail folder. When you get that donation, make sure the donor fills out the form completely. Leave the pink copy with the donor and turn the rest of it in to the Auction Donations bin outside the front office.
  • BEFORE you hit the ground running, check our Solicitations Spreadsheet on the sign in desk or online to make sure someone hasn't already checked with the business you had in mind. Please add your name and donor (if not already on the list) AFTER you get a donation so that that donor isn't asked again.
  • For EVERY donation you turn in, your family will earn ONE volunteer hour!!! Remember to log that hour in the volunteer log each time you turn in a donation. And you are more than welcome to go out and get more than one donation – additional forms are available outside the front office – take as many as you’d like!
It truly takes a village so get pumped, get out there, and score that donation!

Calling All Wine Lovers!
Back by popular demand, the Wine Ring Toss will be making its triumphant return to our annual gala, the Spring Fling!
What makes this game so much fun? Wine! Lots and lots of wine! To make this event the best that it can be, we would greatly appreciate it if families could raid their "wine cellars" and donate at least one bottle of your favorite vintage - it could be a fancy Syrah or a not-so-fancy Chardonnay - a wide variety of tasty wines is our goal (bottles only - no boxed wines, please - while oftentimes delicious, they don't work so well in a wine toss).

Simply leave your donation in the front office and log one volunteer hour for your family's wine contribution. How cool is that?

Let's Play!

Are you the host with the most? Are you the entertainment director in your group of friends? Or are you just always down to have a good time? Great! Read on, because this is your jam!

We are looking for a few more fun folks to host MdTL's "Let's Play" Activities (formerly known as Signup Parties). These are events for adults or kids (or both!) organized and sponsored by MdTL parents, and a limited number of slots are available to MdTL's families and friends to participate. All proceeds raised go back to MdTL.
To get those creative juices flowing, here are just a few popular events from years past:
  • Dad's Poker Night: A night of cards and delicious BBQ for the guys.
  • Amazing Race: Teams of 2 raced around Novato, participating in a variety of challenges.
  • Bocce Tournament and Italian Picnic: Hosted at the Bocce Courts on B Street in San Rafael, teams of 2 competed in a pool play tournament for the coveted title of "Bocce's Best", while feasting on Italian nibbles and sipping wine.
  • Little Ladies Tea Party: Little ladies were treated to an afternoon of elegance and whimsy as they enjoyed tea and cookies in a beautiful outdoor setting.
  • Kids Pirate Party: A young group of buccaneers enjoyed a pizza lunch and were entertained by Capt'n Jack Spareribs.
As you can see, our past activities have been both elaborate and simple, but unique and fun is the real name of the game here! And some hosts were able to incorporate donations into their gathering. If you have an idea for an activity you'd like to host, contact Rika Gopinath.
