Art

Art is naturally woven into the classroom environments and activities at all program levels. Early on, children are exposed to a wide range of materials and sensorial work to encourage experimentation and to reinforce fine motor skills. Each classroom has a dedicated art shelf with materials that children can use as a means of self-expression.

Elementary students may utilize the Cedar Art Room to follow up on their lessons and extension projects during "open studio." Lisa, our Artist-in-Residence, conducts studio time and is available for consultation on individual / group projects of particular interest. In these sessions, children are encouraged to trust their creative vision, while exploring two-dimensional and three-dimensional media and techniques for seeing their project to completion.  Children may also organize visits to art institutions to further inspire their creative knowledge and connect with their local art communities.
