The Green Committee takes a leadership role in our community for creating an environment of health and sustainability throughout the MdTL campus. The committee consists of an energized and forward thinking group of parents and staff working together to achieve such an environment. This school-wide commitment to green principles and practices culminated in 2009 with recognition as a Green Certified Business in Marin County.
The Green Committee sponsors several events each year and continues to share green principles and practices with the community. As part of continued recertification every three years as a Green Business, the Green Committee continues to advance and improve the green practices at the school. The Committee meets on the first Monday of each month and sponsors these projects:
- Fall and Spring Clothing Swap, October and April
- Sewing Circle: Sew Your Own Reusable Gift Bags, early December
- Green Your Valentines Day, early February
- Earth Day Celebration, Monday, April 23 - Thursday, April 26, 2018
Next meeting: Monday, January 8, 8:30am Madrone Room Co-Chairs: Gretchen Hopkins and Rika Gopinath
Thanks to Marin Clean Energy for the shout out! Our Deep Green Champion of the day is Montessori de Terra Linda. This school made the choice to #optUPto MCE's Deep Green 100% California renewable energy.
Using the pedagogical methods of Maria Montessori, the Montessori de Terra Linda serves children 2-12 years old. The school is a certified Marin County Green Business and maintains a campus with sunny classrooms and natural playgrounds, allowing children to foster a strong connection with the environment. Office Manager Alice Miller said, "We are proud to be an early adopter of MCE's Deep Green initiative because environmental stewardship is a core value for us here at Montessori de Terra Linda."
