For many families, it is our truly special sense of community that was one of the deciding factors as they considered joining our school. This community spirit is evident throughout all our activities! There are many ways for parents to get involved: some parents take advantage of opportunities to volunteer inside the classroom, while others move beyond the classroom due to their respective schedules and strengths. There are opportunities for everyone.

The MdTL Board of Trustees has standing committees, each of which play an important role within the community. We encourage members of the MdTL community to step forward and participate. If you are interested in joining the Board of Trustees, we ask that you participate on a committee prior to applying. Questions may be addressed to the chair-people or any member of the Board. Capital Campaign Committee

The Capital Campaign Committee formed in 2014 when the Board approved a building and campus improvement project, which commenced in June 2015. The committee launched our "Deep Roots, Strong Branches" campaign which successfully raised $300,000 in pledges and donations, allowing for the first of this two-phase site improvement project to get off the ground. The results are the beautiful new 4,000 sqare foot Primary Education Wing, which also houses our Art Classroom/Studio and Conference & Staff Break Room. Phase I also brought a brand new completely reconstructed Natural Playscape for our Primary and Pre-Primary outdoor play yard. For our Elementary program, Phase I created an inviting outdoor space that serves as an outdoor classroom, garden and multi-purpose space for lessons, lunch, group activities and creative Elementary endeavors. Communications Committee

The Communications Committee is responsible for the creation and management of internal and external communications at MdTL. Key responsibilities include publishing the Annual Report, management of the school's website, public relations, alumni database and working with other committees to effectively communicate their projects. Development Committee

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee reviews the health and state of the business, while providing oversight in the creation, ratification and management of the school's budget. This committee reviews all audit comments and implements any necessary changes resulting from these comments. Guided by the investment policy set for the school, the committee manages MdTL investments. To get involved, contact Chair Mike Yasin.

Governance Committee - Quarterly (as needed)

The Governance Committee provides for the Board’s effectiveness and continuing development. The Committee monitors the policies and procedures; reviews and updates the by-laws; determines a desirable profile for the membership of the Board; evaluates prospective Trustees candidates through the Committee on Trustees, a sub committee of the Governance Committee, and recommends them to the Board for approval, orients new Trustees, provides continuing education and development for Trustees on governance matters, and evaluates the performance of the Board and of individual Trustees. This committee is only open to Board members.

Green Committee

The Green Committee takes a leadership role in our community for creating an environment of health and sustainability throughout the MdTL campus. The committee consists of an energized and forward thinking group of parents and staff working together to achieve such an environment. This school-wide commitment to green principles and practices culminated in 2009 with recognition as a Green Certified Business in Marin County.

The Green Committee sponsors several events each year and continues to share green principles and practices with the community. As part of continued recertification every three years as a Green Business, the Green Committee continues to advance and improve the green practices at the school.

Strategic Planning

The Strategic Planning Committee creates the vision for MdTL's long-term strategic direction. This includes setting goals for the organization and achieving buy-in from the Board of Trustees. The committee is responsible for the creation of a written strategic plan, including a plan for execution and evaluation of the plan's effectiveness. To get involved, contact Ty Bridge.
